Mississippi Gulf Coast Marathon

The Mississippi Gulf Coast Marathon takes place annually in December in coastal Mississippi, primarily along Highway 90 from Pass Christian to Biloxi. The event is known for its flat, fast, and USATF-certified course, which runs parallel to the Gulf of Mexico, providing continuous views of beaches and passing through towns such as Long Beach and Gulfport before finishing in Biloxi.
This marathon follows a point-to-point format: the full marathon begins in Pass Christian, and the half marathon starts in Gulfport, with both races finishing inside the baseball stadium at MGM Park in Biloxi. The course is designed for speed with minimal elevation gain (approximately 140 feet overall), making it suitable for runners seeking personal bests or Boston Marathon qualification.
Alongside the full and half marathons, the event weekend includes a 5K, a Kids’ Marathon (1 mile), and novelty events such as a beer mile and beer mile relays, offering multiple distances and experiences for participants of various ages and abilities. Runners who complete both the 5K on Saturday and either the half or full marathon on Sunday qualify for a special Double Down challenge medal.
Support features on the course include frequent hydration stations approximately every 1.5 miles, staffed by volunteers, with traffic managed by law enforcement. The course format typically utilizes a closed lane on busy roads rather than a completely closed course, and runner safety is coordinated with traffic management. Time limits are enforced, with the full marathon requiring an average pace no slower than 13:45 per mile, translating to a 6-hour limit.
Finishers cross the line inside MGM Park and can enjoy a festival atmosphere, including live music, local food and drink, and a finish area where runners appear on the stadium jumbotron. Runners receive unique finisher medals and have access to typical post-race amenities such as food and beverages, sometimes including regional specialties.
The event highlights the scenery, culture, and hospitality of the Mississippi coast, making it a notable option for both competitive marathoners and runners seeking a scenic, community-focused experience.
