Cowtown Marathon

The Cowtown Marathon is an annual event held in Fort Worth, Texas, taking place each year during the last weekend of February. The event includes a variety of race formats: full marathon, half marathon, ultra marathon (50K), adult 10K, adult 5K, and a Kids 5K. Races are run on paved roads across Fort Worth, with some courses encountering moderate hills most notably as runners approach downtown near the stockyards area.
This race weekend spans multiple days and is supported by frequent aid stations, crowd encouragement, and live music along the course. The starting and finishing area is located near the Will Rogers Memorial Center. Over its history, the marathon has grown significantly since its founding in 1979, expanding from an initial offering of only the marathon and 10K, to its current multi-race format.
A distinct feature of the event is the C.A.L.F. (Children’s Activities for Life and Fitness) Program, which provides grants for running shoes and discounted entry fees to low-income children, serving about 5,000 students per year across 16 school districts. In addition to supporting youth fitness, the event is known for strong community engagement via volunteers and enthusiastic local spectators, contributing to its reputation as a well-organized and welcoming marathon experience.
Participants can expect well-coordinated logistics, ample amenities, and a course that combines urban scenery with historic Fort Worth neighborhoods. The Cowtown Marathon is regarded as the largest multi-event race weekend in North Texas.
