San Antonio Marathon

The San Antonio Marathon is held in the center of San Antonio, Texas, with both the marathon and half marathon starting and finishing at Hemisfair, a prominent park in downtown. The full marathon distance is 26.2 miles (42 km), and the course weaves through several historic neighborhoods, including King William, North Saint Mary’s Street, Monte Vista, Olmos Park, and Alamo Heights. Major landmarks along the route include The Alamo, the River Walk, Majestic Theatre, Fort Sam Houston, and Brackenridge Park.
The event weekend features a race format that includes a 5K run on Friday night, followed by the marathon and half marathon on Sunday. The marathon is USATF certified, making it an official qualifier for the Boston Marathon. The race has a 7-hour course time limit and includes 17 water stations, 8 electrolyte stations, and 2 gel stations positioned along the course.
A distinctive feature of the marathon is that each mile is themed,highlighting a unique aspect of San Antonio’s cultural heritage. The course is designed to immerse participants in the city’s vibrant atmosphere and diverse history, encouraging both community involvement and spectator engagement. The minimum age for marathon participation is 16 years, 14 for the half marathon, and 7 for the 5K.
The San Antonio Marathon is operated by the nonprofit San Antonio Sports, in partnership with the City of San Antonio and other organizations. The inaugural event in its current form follows the conclusion of the previous Rock €˜n’ Roll Running Series that ran for sixteen years in the city.
