This race works well for runners who enjoy trail running through scenic countryside and don't mind a bit of climbing mixed in. The moderately hilly terrain and elevation gain suggest you'll spend time working uphill rather than cruising, so it suits those comfortable with sustained effort over flat speed. The Bavarian location and royal palace theme attract tourists and leisure runners, but the trail surface and elevation mean casual joggers might find themselves surprised by the demands. Trail runners who've done similar events in the Alps or pre-Alps will recognize the terrain and come prepared. If you're chasing a fast time or prefer road marathons, this won't suit you. On the course you'll run past three lakes—the Hopfensee, Forggensee, and Schwansee—with older sections taking in Füssen's old town. The landscape is rural and probably beautiful, though the race website gives little detail about what you'll actually encounter mile by mile. The trail surface means exposed roots, rocks, and mud are likely, especially given the elevation changes. At around 800 metres above sea level with 307 metres of climbing spread across 42 kilometres, you're looking at sustained uphills rather than a brief slog followed by relief. The biggest challenge might be pacing yourself properly on the early climbs and dealing with tired legs on whatever descents come later. In July, the Bavarian summer heat and potential afternoon thunderstorms are worth factoring into your training and race day plans.
