The Long Island Marathon is an annual long-distance running event held on Long Island, New York, established in 1973 as The Earth Day Marathon. Its origins trace back to an earlier race directed by the New York Road Runners, which took place in Central Park in 1971 and 1972 before relocating to Roosevelt Raceway and Eisenhower Park. The event adopted its current name, Long Island Marathon, in 1978, expanding over the years to include a half marathon in 1984.
